Why Use Personal Checks?

Posted on September 3rd, 2010 by admin

Personal checks are used because they are far more convenient than getting a money order or bank draft, going to the utility or store to pay the bill, or sending cash, which is a dangerous practice.

Personal checks can be dull and uneventful with only the name of the person to whom the payment is being made, the date, the amount in both numbers and words and the signature of the payee. These uneventful checks come in pastel colors of yellow, blue, pink, green and beige and are very staid and practical. If, however, you want the bill paying process to be a little more eventful and fun, than designer personal checks are your answer. These checks can have stock pictures of animals, children, teams, flowers and trees, etc. or, the individual that owns the account can have his or her picture imprinted onto their personal checks.

With the advent of the debit card, the life of personal checks is in question. The convenience of the debit card has become a popular and favorite way to pay utility bills, and for purchases. Both the check writing and debit card are now governed by the Uniform Commercial Code of the United States Government and the person using the check writing process or the debit card, is held to certain standards. The most important of those standards is that there must be funds in the account to cover the amount of the purchase.

Consumers are now subjected to the electronic check process used by many businesses today. When a purchase is made and the check is put through the electronic check machine it will tell the business if there are funds to cover the amount of the check. If there is not enough money in the account the check will be immediately rejected.
