how do i make my 1984 305 el camino faster without swapping the engine?

Posted on April 28th, 2011 by admin

i only have about $2,000 to work with and i want to keep the engine just make it a faster than stock

Some of these El Caminos came with an anemic 2.56 rear gear……a set of 3.08′s or 3.42′s would help tremendously. Beyond that….. recurve the distributor, ascertain the vacuum advance is working properly….lean down the APT adjustment on the front barrels of your Q-Jet. Make sure the vacuum advance is getting venturi vacuum and not manifold vacuum.

will a 2.73 posi rear axle work with an 81 el camino?

Posted on April 26th, 2011 by admin

i have an 81 el camino with a chevy 305 and want to buy a 2.73 posi rear axle and was wondering if it would be able to handle the engine or will the engine/transmission be able to handle the posi axle

While the 7.5" rear axle those cars came with is no Ford 9-inch, it easily stood up to all that GM put to it in the 70′s and 80′s, except of course the Grand National which got the 8.5". (So did the 442, but it didn’t make anywhere near enough power to hurt the 7.5", which the Monte SS also ran FWIW) So yes, it will hold up fine to the 305.

That said, its a terrible gear ratio, even 3.42 is anemic by todays standards, but it’s pushing what you want on the freeway with a non-overdrive transmission.

You can buy posi units from places like ring-pinion.com, summitracing.com, and jegs.com, so its not like posi in a rear end with terrible gears is worth much.

Help translating a Spanish poem?

Posted on April 19th, 2011 by admin

The poem is "Alma Música" by Nicolás Guillen. While I understand the gist of it, I’m an upper level university Spanish student trying to create an English translation. I’m having trouble with several lines in particular. Here’s the poem:

Yo soy borracho. Me seduce el vino
luminoso y azul de la Quimera
que pone una explosión de Primavera
sobre mi corazón y mi destino.
Tengo el alma hecha ritmo y armonía;

The lines I’m having trouble with are:
- Tengo el alma hecha ritmo y armonía;

I recognize that these lines do not have a literal translation, and I’m having trouble putting them into words. I tried using an online translator to at least get an idea as to how they might be translated, but those were of minimal help. I also tried looking for an English translation posted online for this, but there wasn’t one available that I could find. Any input from a native Spanish speaker would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Tengo el alma hecha ritmo y armonía;
My soul is rhythm and harmony

Must rhyme her rhythm my crazy soul

the rope vibrates and sings because it’s sane..
Here the author uses a play of words with the two meanings of "cuerda" (rope and sane)..

An accurate translation?

Posted on April 18th, 2011 by admin

I had to create my own translation to Neruda’s Juventud for my poetry class. The objective was not for a word for word translation, but an interpretation that conveyed a similar meaning as that of the original. Here are both and tell me what you think.
Juventud

Youth

A scent like an acidic sword
of plums in a way,
kisses of sugar on the teeth,
drops of life sliding through the fingers
With a sweet sensual pulp,
The years, the barns, the inviting
Secret places of the estates,
The used mattresses, the sour green valley
Seen from above, from the hidden window:
All the children are wet and burnt out
Like a lamp toppled in the rain.

Yes, a very excellent translation of the poem. Good job :)

What is the English translation of the Spanish word avivamiento?

Posted on April 15th, 2011 by admin

It is used in the context: preparar el camino para el gran avivamiento espiritual que Dios tiene preparado para los Estados Unidos y Latinoamérica

Prepare the way (get ready) for the great spiritual awakening (revival) which God has in store for the United States and Latin America.

bad idea to travel alone?

Posted on April 13th, 2011 by admin

I really want to go walking in Spain this summer, on the Camino de Santiago. But, I cant find anyone to go with me! I really want to go so Im considering just going alone….Is this a bad idea? Im 19, girl, and Haven’t traveled much really…Also I dont speak Spanish. Is this a really bad move or do you think I could muddle along? :/

ok..traveling alone isn’t a good idea, because many bad things can happen to you..like getting kidnapped by strangers, getting lost and not knowing where to go,because you are not familiar with the city, or state. you should find someone to go with you, also try to go with someone that knows spanish, or just learn how to speak spanish..by taking classes, so you can communicate with the people from spain. your 19 very young still, I think you still need an older adult to look out for you just in case if anything happens. I think traveling is great, but you need to protect yourself everywhere you go..there are crazy people out in the world..just stay safe and have an older adult with you.after you find someone to go with you then everything is good, but going alone not a smart idea!!!

How the Hell did Moses spend 40 YEARS getting from Egypt to Israel?

Posted on April 11th, 2011 by admin

Look at a map – it´s not that far. I guess it´s about the same distance as the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route in Spain or even less than that, and the Camino de Santiago can be walked in a matter of weeks.
Taking forty years is frankly quite a botch job. I would be well cheesed off if I was one of the guys following him.
Why?

It was punishment for the sinful generation that left Egypt. God wanted a new generation to enter the promised land that was not corrupted by memories of Egyptian culture. They wandered the desert for 40 years prior to going to Canaan.

Do I need a visa when traveling to Spain for just under 90 days?

Posted on April 8th, 2011 by admin

I am planning on walking the Via de la Plata from Sevilla to Compostela de Santiago, then from there to Le Puy, France (backwards on the Camino de Santiago). I should be exiting Spain before 90 days pass.

Do I need a visa?

If you are a non-EU citizen (American, Canadian etc.) you must have left not only Spain but also the entire Schengen zone within 90 days for a visa-free stay.
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_4361.html ..

Added [because of the other questions asked]:
I always presume that an asker who asks in Y!A U.S. is an American; if someone asks in different sections of Y!A s/he should state her/his citizenship in order to get a good answer. Some people just don’t realize that Y!A is accessible all over the world..
