I have a MacBook in Leopard 10.5.6, running Firefox 3.0.6, and my scrolling varies from extra fast (like continuing to scroll long past when I stop) to super slow and sluggish. I’ve tried updating and adjusting preferences and have no add ons besides Ad Blocker and I can’t figure out why this is happening no matter what forum I go on. Is anyone else having this problem? It’s gotten so that Firefox is completely unusable for me and I’ve had to switch to Camino, when I much prefer the utilities on Firefox.
It’s not my track pad settings, as scrolling is fine in Camino and Opera. I’ve reset everything in Firefox proper, updated it, and deleted and reinstalled it and nothing is different. I was able to export my bookmarks though so using another browser isn’t a big deal.
I’ve been using Firefox on this computer since I got it last summer (and for years in general on other Macs). I think maybe the problems started when I updated to Firefox 3 this fall (?). I’ve been through several updates on both Leopard and Firefox since then and nothing has changed. I’ve checked each time.
Ok, I adjusted the scrolling speed and it seems to be working ok for now. Do I need to change the configuration back to true now or should I leave it?
Thanks so much for the help. I hope this does the trick–sometimes Firefox has been working ok but mostly it’s been screwed up for me.
Did you just recently install Firefox? Or, did you have Firefox before? The reason I ask is because I would try to figure out when the problem began so I can see if I made any changes that could be causing the issue. I have a MacBook running 10.5.6 & Firefox … and the scrolling is fine. I use Safari, though.
Try this:
1. Open up Firefox and type about:config in the URL box.
2. Find the line mousewheel.withnokey.sysnumlines, set it to false by double clicking on true.
3. Find the line mousewheel.withnokey.numlines, set it to the number of lines you want to scroll at a time. This controls the scrolling speed. Fool around with the numbers to see if you can get a decent scroll speed.
Leave the changes as they are & just adjust if you feel the need to.
